1. turn to other kinds of accommodation offers if you wish to stay in the city centre, for example (besides the well-known websites) to:

You'll find below a list of hotels in the city center at a short walking distance from underground stations. Rennes's underground is only one line. To reach Rennes 2 University, take the Kennedy Station way and jump out at “Villejean/Université Rennes 2”. It takes only 15 minutes from the city center to reach Rennes 2 University by underground.
